When a chubby rat got stuck in a manhole cover in Germany, heroic firefighters came to his rescue. Although the rodent did not come out easily, the team stayed there until they found a way to free him and send him home.
Firefighters jump in action
Firefighters are used to answering emergency calls to help someone in need. It's her job, after all. Mostly they are called to help a human or a cat, who are stuck in a tree. On February 24 in the German city from Bensheim they were put into service, the job was a little different.
In this case, her victim was a chubby rat that had not lost its winter weight and got stuck in a manhole cover. As usual, the first responders jumped into action when needed.
Amazing rescue took time
To free the rat was not easy. It was more of an extended process. The firefighters put on protective gloves and first applied the most obvious approach – they simply let the animal out of the hole. If that did not work, they kept trying. In the end, it took eight firefighters and one animal expert to help. Her persistence paid off for the tiny, helpless mammal.
The rescuers were able to get the rat back to where they came from, and some people on social media asked why they were putting the rat directly into the sewer he was trying to climb out of. Nevertheless, the animal was certainly glad to have his freedom again.
Distressed Rat still looks adorable
Rats are generally not popular and do not always receive the highest respect. But this rat looks adorable and has its salvation enchanted the Internet. Many people say that every animal deserves empathy and should be helped in trouble.
Let's hope that he can take his rodent attacks and does not get stuck in tight spaces.
