Woman finds family on Ancestry

It is sometimes easy to take our families for granted; They are always there, borrowing our stuff and eating the drumstick at Thanksgiving. But for many people it's hard to stick to the family. The story of a woman named Albreanna is an incredible reminder of what it means to be surrounded by people you are related to, because she has been looking for them for years. Albreanna was adopted as a baby. Her adoptive mother died when she was 17, and she's been with her most since. She had sworn she would somehow find her biological family, but she was out of luck. In the beginning of July she told me how it finally happened. I found my biological family. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am an aunt. I am a granddaughter. Bitch, I'm a relative !!! She only knew that her mother was Thai and her father was black. That's not much to find a whole family, especially a little bit about me. I was adopted at birth and never knew my family or where I came from. All I knew was that my mother was Thai and my dad was black and I was on a mission to find her. pic.twitter.com/KG4oRR3H1x- albreannafindme (@ Albreanna89) July 8, 2018

But then, one day, they found them: So I get a message from this guy from @Ancestry. He asked me, how tall is your name Albreanna? Were you born in SC and is your birthday in August? I'm like yeahhh … pic.twitter.com/4EqpuW1a5T- albreannafindme (@ Albreanna89) July 8, 2018

He's like, "Well, I'm your brother and I've been looking for you for years." My heart falls off immediately and I do not play! He's like yeah & you're the 3rd youngest of 4. I'm shaken up pic.twitter.com/O1fsNNp6EO- albreannafindme (@ albreanna89) July 8, 2018

Technology has improved dramatically in recent decades. Ancestry is one of many services that people track and sometimes even track DNA. Albreanna had a family and they were looking for her. She was one of four children sharing the same birth mother, so he brings me to FaceTime with all my siblings. We all share the same Thai mother but different fathers. Mom was a rolling stone back then. pic.twitter.com/wYRmaauPWO- albreannafindme (@ Albreanna89) July 8, 2018

Watch this adorable family on a 4-way call. It turned out that her youngest brother was only 30 minutes away, so she ran over to hug him in real life: my youngest brother, who found me ironic, lives 30 minutes away from me in LA. So I went over to him. pic.twitter.com/a5lEO99YBN- albreannafindme (@ Albreanna89) July 8, 2018

As a surprise to her mother, Albreanna's siblings decided to bring her to a July 4th celebration: before she met her organic mother, Albreanna shared her feelings about what was coming. She was excited, but also worried about how her mother would react. Would she accept her? Would she be angry that her other children released Albreanna on her? It was a scary moment. You can see all the feelings on her face in this picture: But she had a lot of support. Her siblings felt incredibly familiar and helped her relax. A little. Her siblings helped her through the encounter: they broke the news to Albreanna's mother that she was here, and there was no dry eye in the house. Warning: This video will make you cry: At first, she was confused as to who this extra person was on family vacation: when her children told her, "This is sister," she did not believe it at first. Then she collapsed. There are moments when the timeline is missing as Albreanna and her mother greet each other. But then they were like old friends: And she found out that her mother thought of her all these years, and even got a tattoo of her name after she had her adopted: My mother got my name on her ankle the next Day after she gave me up. She told me she would never forget me. And she did not do it. 😩 pic.twitter.com/uvBueGl0eN – albreannafindme (@ Albreanna89) July 8, 2018

The two had a lot to catch up with: I'm complete. I am a child who has found people who look like me. Act like me. It's crazy that my mother and I share the same style, but never grew up around them. pic.twitter.com/36CVddy7Mn- albreannafindme (@ Albreanna89) July 8, 2018

Wait, was this a great ad for Ancestry.com? If it was, I am 100% sold.
Albreanna says that this experience is so important and life-changing to her that she wants to help other people unite with their biological families if they can. Not all of them can end so well, but she believes it's worth a try and hopes people will share their story to inspire others. Love family is precious, whether it's biological, married or found. Albreanna's story gives us every reason to keep the people we love closer to today.
